These two-wire sensors use a single-wavelength design that provides the average temperature of the measured target area. They are offered in a variety of mechanical configurations with a wide selection of temperature ranges and spectral response. Short-wavelength sensors are recommended to reduce or eliminate errors due to emissivity variation. These models offer superior value for multi-unit and OEM applications.

For most applications, the selection of the sensor is based on the temperature range and the optics that meet the requirements of the application. However, some applications require careful selection of the sensor’s operating wavelength in order to obtain accurate measurements. Frequently, the selection of a specific narrow band filter will result in a narrower temperature range for the sensor, but the benefit can be dramatic improvements in the accuracy and repeatability of temperature measurements. Thoughtful wavelength selection is important in the following applications:
- visually transparent materials, like glass or plastics
- the ability to measure through flames
- the ability to minimize the interference of water vapor or background reflections

The FiberView 1100 Single-Wavelength Sensors with Fiber Optics can be used to measure most common materials in medium and high temperature applications. With the fiber optic configuration, it is possible to view a target and mount the sensor electronics in a remote or more convenient location. This provides greater durability and flexibility with sensor installations that involve confined spaces and/or severe environments.

All of Williamson’s fiber optic sensors use a small, sealed fiber optic cable with an ambient limit of 400°F (200°C) to enable access to difficult to reach targets and to survive hostile operating conditions. In addition, Williamson offers several unique fiber cable options that can enable measurements on applications that were previously considered difficult to measure. This includes the
